Resilient through infertility
how to build resiliency and self-advocacy through fertility treatment from a therapist who’s been through it

“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”
—Nelson Mandela
There is little that can prepare one for fertility struggles, let alone the process of seeking fertility treatments, which for many can become daunting quickly. The process often involves complex medical procedures, numerous appointments, and a significant financial burden. Emotionally, it can be a rollercoaster of hope, disappointment, and uncertainty, as the desired outcomes are not always guaranteed. The constant monitoring and hormonal medications can take a toll on the physical and mental well-being of those undergoing treatments. Coping with the unpredictability of fertility treatments can be isolating, as it may be challenging to openly discuss these deeply personal struggles. Despite the challenges, the resilience and determination of individuals embarking on this path to parenthood are truly commendable. As a therapist who went through this herself, my aim is to share of my experience and my thoughts on how to maintain mental and emotional health through this process. When I began my experience with fertility treatment, I did not personally know anyone who had been through it before; there was a lot that I wish I knew before I began, and I’d like to share those things with individuals just starting out.
